My Story.....Part 2

You can read the first part of My Story here.

So I regretted my decision to end my fertility, but, sadly, my husband did not.  He was quite content with the three children we had. We had a boy and 2 girls and he felt our family was complete.

Quite surprisingly for me (at that time) I did not nag, whine, complain or even discuss my feelings with my husband. But I did start to pray. I began by praying that the surgery wasn't successful. However, at my postpartum checkup, my OB happily informed me that the pathologist report showed that the tissue removed was indeed, "right Fallopian tube, left Fallopian tube". My heart sank. I had an awful sick feeling in my stomach.

I kept praying. Now my prayer was that God would miraculously heal me. He had made my Fallopian tubes, after all, surely He could grow them back together. (I know that God is completely sovereign and He could have, indeed, grown them back together, or even given me completely new ones, had He so wished, but He had a different plan for me.)

Then I began praying that He would change my husband's heart. I started researching tubal ligation reversals, only to be terribly disappointed by the costs of such surgeries. I knew we would never be able to afford it. Then I found a group that helps fund reversals. I joined their site and learned so much about reversals, as well as about how children are blessings from God and that there are people who actually want lots of children. (That was a concept that was completely foreign to me. I was raised with the typical American mentality of 2-3 children being enough. Or more than enough. <sigh>)

The Lord did work on my husband's heart and he came to the place that he agreed with me that we had made a mistake. He was willing to get a reversal if we could find a way to afford it. (I had joined the reversal funding group's yahoo email group, but they had some requirements that I didn't feel we could agree to. Therefore, I knew that we would be on our own for funding our reversal. Haha....as if God weren't big enough even for the funding part!)

One night my husband was away from home and I was again searching about reversals. I suddenly had an idea. What about Mexico? Was it possible that there was a doctor in Mexico who did the surgery? It would certainly be cheaper. Hmmm...... What I found was nothing short of amazing to me! There was a doctor and he was highly recommended by the funding group I had been following. I was super excited.

My husband, however, was not.

My Story

I am the mother of 7 children. But I didn't plan it that way and neither did my husband.  Of course, the Lord knows all things and He knows the path He has for me. It is a very different path than I would have ever imagined for myself.

My husband and I were college sweethearts. We met in an Old Testament class our first semester of college. We got engaged during the summer after our freshman year and got married the next summer. We didn't plan to have children right away since we still had a few years of school left and with both of us in school, we were poorer than poor.

I graduated college while pregnant with my first baby. We decided I would stay home with him and I thoroughly enjoyed being a mom that first year of his life. I started my teaching career when he was exactly a year old. When he was 2.5 years old I became pregnant again and knew right away there was no way I would be able to leave my infant with a caregiver. I knew that I would have to quit my job. It was a very difficult decision since my income was quite a bit larger than my husband's. But God provided. Not only in a financial way, but by giving us the faith to trust Him.

I settled into the role of stay-at-home mom and began homeschooling my son, who was now 3. Homeschooling was another large change for us, since I was a public school teacher and had NEVER thought I would homeschool. (After all, homeschooling is for weird people!)

It was in this season of our lives that I decided that I had my hands full with 2 children and we would not have any more. At least not for a long while.  I had big plans for myself to get completely involved in our homeschool group leadership. I really needed a place to dedicate my time and energy into a worthwhile cause.  *chuckle* I'm not sure why I never saw the extremely worthwhile endeavor God had literally placed right inside my own walls.

As usual, God had a plan in mind for showing me this very worthwhile cause that was right before me. I decided to sell all my baby things in a yard sale since we were "done", at least for several years.  I just needed to take a quick pregnancy test to be sure before I did it.  I was certain it would be negative. WRONG!  I was pregnant!  I couldn't believe it! This was NOT what I had planned. I spent that entire pregnancy in complete denial. I was even trying to think up field trip plans for our group to take place the week of my due date.  Then I would catch myself and think, "No, I can't do it that week. I have to have a baby." Boy, did God have some real changes ahead for me!

My sweet baby girl was born on a beautiful spring day in May and within an hour I had a tubal ligation.  I regretted it before I even woke up from the anesthesia.

Changes and my story......

I've been busy this week working on some changes for my blog.  I know it is still very new and it may seem a little strange to be changing things up so quickly, but I think I will like it better when everything is in place.  I will have a new name as well as my own domain.  I'm excited!

I'm also working on telling my story of how I got to be the mother of 7 children. Something I would never have imagined or believed up until a few years ago.  I want to share how the Lord has taught my husband and me to value children and also the many other lessons we have learned and are continuing to learn on this journey. We are certainly not the same people we were a few years ago. And with His grace we will continue to grow and learn and be able to say in a few years that we are even changed from what we are now.  I'm so thankful to Him for His wonderful mercy and grace to us, undeserving as we are.
